In a city like Las Vegas, talent is everywhere. Longevity is not. Diana Castellon has both.

With 13 years in the industry and nearly a decade refining her expertise in Balayage and Genius weft extensions, Diana has built HairCraft into a space where technical skill meets intention. Her work is polished, dimensional, and seamless, but what truly sets her apart is the depth of experience behind it.

She enrolled at Euphoria Beauty Institute in 2011, graduating in 2012 with a clear goal: to turn her love of art and people into a career. Her first job? A $5 haircut salon in East Las Vegas. Not glamorous but foundational. It’s where she built speed, resilience, and confidence. From there, she explored every lane this industry offers: freelance, commission, booth rental and hourly. She didn’t just want to work behind the chair; she wanted to understand the business.

That drive led to major recognition, including a 2026 cover feature in Soeleish Las Vegas Magazine and being named one of Las Vegas’ Top 30 Hairstylists in 2022.

Then in 2019, life shifted. A diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis forced Diana to reevaluate everything. In an industry that rewards overbooking and burnout, she chose boundaries. Today, she works two to three days a week, balancing motherhood with a loyal clientele who value quality over quantity.

“My love for hair and human connection always triumphs,” she says, and it shows.

Diana offers men’s and women’s cuts, Balayage, gray blending, Genius weft and tape in extensions, and mentorship for emerging stylists. Her success isn’t loud. It’s earned. And in this industry, that’s what lasts.

You started at a $5 haircut salon and worked your way through every pay structure in this industry. Looking back, which season shaped you the most and what did it teach you that beauty school never could?

I started at $3.50 a haircut, working full eight hour days to make ends meet. I knew it was temporary, but I wanted to build my skill and my speed. Commission made sense at first, but I knew eventually I needed to work for myself.

So I did both, booth rental at a salon and hourly work at Great Clips, at the same time. I always had income coming in. After four to six months of balancing both I took the leap and went all in on booth rental. It was scary. But I figured someone else had been exactly where I was and made it work, so why not me?

Instagram and Facebook were already changing the industry and I used both to build visibility. The inquiries and referrals followed. That part nobody teaches you in beauty school. School gives you the foundation, sanitation, regulations, technique. Everything else you figure out through experience, through showing up, and through trusting yourself enough to bet on your own work.

In 2019, your rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis forced you to change the way you work. How did that shift your perspective on hustle culture in the beauty industry?

February 2019 is when everything changed. I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis shortly after the holiday rush; the pain in my knees and hands just wouldn't go away. I think I was in denial at first. I wanted to keep being the girl boss, fully booked, always hustling. But I also had no paid time off and no health insurance. I had to get real with myself fast.

For a moment, it felt like defeat. But then it clicked. This wasn't just about stacking money and staying booked. It was about actually living. So I started planning ahead, reducing my workload, and being honest with my clients. I told them this journey wasn't going to be easy and that I would understand if they needed to move on. Most of them stayed. They have been more supportive than I ever expected and they deserve the world for that.

When a client sits in your chair for Balayage or Genius weft extensions, what do you think they feel that keeps them coming back to you specifically?

Las Vegas is full of talented hairstylists, each one with a story, each one with something to teach. I've always believed in learning from each other rather than competing. That mindset has shaped everything about how I work.

My clients have stayed not just because of my work but because I listen. I show up as a friend. When challenges come up and they do, I look for solutions. I'll call a fellow stylist for input, even when that means hearing where I went wrong. Accountability builds trust faster than anything else.

I show appreciation in real ways: discounts, raffles, giveaways, workshops. When clients see you give back genuinely, they return it. That's what has kept me booked and relevant. Not just skill, but building real relationships.
