As someone who has spent years in treatment rooms and around beauty professionals, I can quickly tell when someone truly belongs in this industry and Stephanie Nole of Sacred Skin by Steph is exactly that kind of professional. Stephanie’s journey began in Sacramento, California, where she became licensed at just 21 years old. Like many great estheticians, her passion was personal, she struggled with her own acne, which gave her an early understanding of how deeply skin concerns can impact confidence. She built her foundation in medical spas during the era of Obagi Medical and IMAGE Skincare, learning the science behind corrective skincare and advanced treatments. Her path, however, wasn’t linear. After moving to Las Vegas in 2011, Stephanie stepped away from aesthetics for nearly a decade to focus on motherhood. In 2021, she co-owned a lash studio, a move she admits never fully aligned with her instincts. While it looked successful from the outside, she found herself managing stress, overhead, and the realities of single motherhood. Two years later, she made the bold decision to sell the business and start over. That decision led her back to what she truly loves.

Today, Stephanie runs a private skincare studio where she specializes in facials, microneedling, chemical peels and Hydrafacial treatments. What stood out to me most is her belief that clients should never have to choose between results and relaxation. Her treatments are corrective, but intentionally calming often incorporating facial massage and sound healing to help regulate the nervous system. She isn’t just treating skin, she’s helping women feel comfortable in it again. And that’s the kind of work that lasts.

You mentioned hidden pore-clogging ingredients during the podcast. What are some of the biggest mistakes consumers are making with products they think are helping their skin?

One of the biggest mistakes I see is people thinking they’re doing everything right, but they’re unknowingly using products that are actually clogging their pores or disrupting their skin barrier. For acne-prone clients especially, this goes beyond just skincare. I’m always having them check their makeup, haircare, and even things like conditioners or oils that can transfer onto the skin. Hidden pore-clogging ingredients are a huge contributor to breakouts, which is why I created a pore-clogging ingredient checker on my website, it gives my clients a simple way to stop guessing and start understanding what they’reputting on their skin. But just because something is natural doesn’t mean it’s right for your skin. I often have clients come in after trying trending products and their skin is more reactive, breaking out, or their barrier is compromised. A lot of this is driven by platforms like TikTok, where skincare becomes overwhelming and inconsistent. People are layering too much or using products that aren’t formulated to actually support the skin. That’s usually when they come to me, feeling frustrated from trying everything. My approach is always to simplify, support the skin barrier first, and focus on consistency over trends. That’s where real, long-term results happen.

What are some of the internal and external factors people may not realize are triggering inflammation and showing up on their skin?

A lot of people don’t realize that what they’re doing internally can directly trigger inflammation that shows up on their skin externally. Our skin is constantly telling us a story—we just have to learn how to read it. Internal factors like heat in the body, certain foods, hot workouts, and even antibiotics can all contribute to inflammation. I see this show up on the skin in different ways—acne for some, and melasma or pigmentation for others. This also comes up a lot in acne treatment. While both oral and topical antibiotics can be helpful in certain cases, I often see clients come in who aren’t seeing real improvement. In some cases, their skin is actually more inflamed, their barrier is compromised, and there may be underlying gut disruption contributing to ongoing inflammation. Then externally, we sometimes add to that inflammation without realizing it—over-exfoliating, layering too many actives, or constantly switching products. When we start to calm inflammation from within and support the skin properly on the outside, the skin can finally function the way it’s meant to. That’s when we see clearer, stronger, and more balanced skin.

Many people think microneedling is only something you do to correct a specific concern, but do you believe it should also be approached as a long-term maintenance treatment, especially as we age and collagen production changes?

Many people think of microneedling as something you do once to “fix” a specific concern, but I really see it as both corrective and long-term maintenance, especially as we age and collagen production naturally slows down. Microneedling works by triggering the body’s natural healing response. It helps reduce inflammation, replace damaged cells, and restructure the skin over time. But it’s not a one-and-done treatment, it's part of a treatment plan with intention. In my approach, treatment plans are always customized based on what your skin needs that day. I focus on building the skin progressively rather than aggressively. Doing one to three deep treatments that create excess inflammation isn’t how I work. Instead, I typically recommend a series of four to six treatments, sometimes even more when we’re targeting concerns like melasma, rosacea, scarring or post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Microneedling is a compounding treatment, meaning each session builds on the last to create stronger, more lasting results over time. This is the long game, we’re strengthening the skin and improving how it functions, not just chasing quick fixes. And just as important, microneedling doesn’t work in isolation. Your lifestyle and homecare plays a huge role in supporting your skin between treatments. When we combine consistent treatments with the right daily routine, that’s when we see the best results, healthier, stronger, more resilient skin. I always say "Progressive over aggressive".
