Behind the Chair: Sherri Higgins’ Mission to Support Women Through Hair Loss

There’s something deeply emotional about the work Sherri Higgins is doing at Kindred Hair Salon in Las Vegas. As someone who has spent years in the beauty industry working closely with women and their confidence, I can tell you firsthand that hair loss is not just cosmetic. It affects the way women see themselves, the way they show up in the world, and often their sense of femininity. What impressed me most about Sherri is not only her level of expertise, but the genuine compassion she brings to every woman who sits in her chair. For nearly 15 years, Sherri has dedicated her career to helping women feel beautiful through hair, originally building her reputation through extension services. But over time, she began noticing something deeper happening behind the chair. More and more women were quietly struggling with hair thinning and hair loss and instead of ignoring the need, he chose to evolve with it.

That decision led Sherri into advanced education surrounding toppers, wigs, mesh integration, meshless systems and non-surgical hair replacement solutions specifically designed for women experiencing hair loss. Everything she offers is centered around helping women feel natural, comfortable and confident again. A year ago, Sherri partnered with longtime client Lisa, who was personally navigating hair loss herself and together they introduced ProCell therapy into Kindred Hair Salon. What are some of the most common reasons women are experiencing hair thinning and hair loss today?

There's been a lot of women who started to notice hair loss post Covid, the stress our bodies when through definitely caused hairloss for people, myself being one of them and now with how popular and accessible GLP1 have become I've seen an uptick of women coming in with hair loss. I don't ever like to blame the hair loss on the injections though, it comes down to the lack of knowledge when it comes to their diet. I'm always educating them to make sure to Increase their protien and staying hydrated. Many women in my chair are also either in menopause or premenopause, this can also have an effect on our hair. I'm always advocating for bloodwork and making sure their levels are correct.

Many women don’t realize there are non-surgical options available for hair loss. Can you explain some of the solutions you offer-such as toppers, mesh integration, wigs and ProCell and who they may be best suited for?

Many women don’t realize there are so many non-surgical options available today for hair loss, because for a long time the conversation around hair replacement felt very limited or outdated. It can be a very taboo topic. The reality is that there are now so many ways to support women depending on where they are in their hair loss journey. A lot of people think extensions are only meant to make hair longer or thicker, but most female hair loss actually happens on the top of the head, around the crown, part line or hairline and that’s where traditional extensions can’t really help. So we have to look at solutions differently.

For some women, hair loss is temporary. It could be caused by stress, hormones, postpartum changes, rapid weight loss, illness or medications. In those cases, something like a clip-in topper or wig can be a beautiful option because it gives immediate confidence and coverage while their natural hair recovers. For other women, hair loss is more permanent or progressive, and that’s where solutions like mesh integration or meshless integration can truly change their lives. Those methods are ideal for women who don’t want to remove something every night or constantly think about their hair loss throughout the day. Many of my clients simply want to feel like themselves again. They want to wake up, wash their hair, style it, go to the gym, and live life without constantly worrying about coverage and mesh integration allows them to do that in a very natural and seamless way. Then there are women who are in the earlier stages of thinning and may not need a hair replacement system at all. That’s where treatments like Procell can be incredibly helpful. I partnered with an advanced aesthetician, Lisa Blondeaux, to bring Procell into the salon because we were seeing more and more women struggling with early thinning, especially around the hairline and crown. What are some of the biggest misconceptions women have about modern hair replacement or hair support options today? What do you think surprises women the most after going through the process and seeing their final results?

One of the biggest misconceptions women have about modern hair replacement is that it’s just “gluing on a toupee” or buying a wig online and putting it on straight out of the box. In reality, today’s hair support options are incredibly customized and natural looking when they’re done correctly. Whether it’s a topper, wig, mesh integration system or another type of hair solution, there’s so much artistry involved. The hair often needs to be custom colored, cut, shaped, sized, and blended specifically for that individual. I always encourage women to work with a trained stylist who specializes in hair loss, because even the best hairpiece still needs customization to truly look realistic and feel like your own hair. I also think many women are afraid to explore options like mesh integration because they assume it’s going to look fake or obvious. But honestly, it’s usually the opposite. The number one thing my clients tell me afterward is, “Nobody noticed.” People may comment that their hair looks fuller or longer, but most don’t realize they’re wearing any type of system at all. You’d actually be surprised how many women are walking around with some form of hair support and you would never know. Another huge misconception is that these options won’t feel natural or won’t feel like “them.” The first 24 hours can definitely feel emotional and unfamiliar, but after that, most women adjust very quickly. I constantly receive messages from clients saying, “It already feels like my hair.” They wash it, style it, sleep in it and live their lives normally. That transformation goes far beyond appearance, it restores confidence. And honestly, one of the most surprising things for many women is wishing they had done it sooner. There’s often so much fear, shame, or anxiety around hair loss that they don’t realize how much of themselves they’ve slowly lost in the process. Once they finally take that step, many tell me they could never imagine going back. It becomes part of their self-care and quality of life. One of the most emotional transformations I see is how much younger and more vibrant women feel afterward. Hair loss can age someone emotionally and physically. When they finally see themselves with fuller hair again whether they often look five to ten years younger instantly. But more importantly, they feel like themselves again.
