Acne is one of the most common skin concerns I see in teenagers, but what many parents don’t realize is that acne is a very broad term. It can range from mild blackheads and congestion to severe inflammatory breakouts.

The good news? Acne may not be curable, but it is absolutely manageable with the right home care routine.

Now that summer is here and the kids are out of school, this is the perfect time to introduce your teenager to a consistent skincare regimen. The key is keeping it simple, fast, and cost-effective because realistically, getting a teenager to commit to a complicated routine every single day is usually a losing battle.

One of my favorite places to start is with Marini Skin Solutions. Their acne system is straightforward, effective, and ideal for teenagers dealing with mild to moderate breakouts.

At night, I recommend cleansing the skin with the Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Treatment Wash 2.5%, an exceptionally effective antibacterial cleanser designed to target acne-causing bacteria while helping reduce congestion and inflammation.

Next, follow with the Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Treatment Lotion. I typically recommend the 5% strength for girls and the 10% strength for boys. During the acclimation process, benzoyl peroxide can be drying and, in my experience, boys tend to be a bit more forgiving of that dryness, while girls often prefer a gentler starting point.

One thing I stress heavily to both parents and teens is the importance of SPF while using benzoyl peroxide. My recommendation is the Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant because it is lightweight, easy to wear, and doesn’t leave behind that heavy white film teenagers usually complain about.
